History
The present temple was built in 1780 by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore; its spire was later gold-plated with a donation from Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The Kashi Vishwanath Dham corridor connecting the temple to the Ganga ghats was inaugurated in 2021.

Compact Nagara-style temple crowned by a gold-plated shikhara and dome.

Kashi is traditionally held to be the eternal city of Shiva, who is said to grant liberation (moksha) to those who pass away here.
